This package includes on day of birding at the the Higgins Ranch, a quintessential Sandhills ranch with terrain that provides amazing upland habitat for birdlife in the area. There's great potential to view the Sharp-tailed Grouse, Greater Prairie-Chicken, and other upland species. The property also features low-lying meadows that quickly transform into prime wetlands. Lovejoy Ranch is a sixth-generation working cattle ranch owned and operated by Bob and Jody Dexter. The 6500-acre property is nestled in the north-central region of the unique grass-covered dunes of the Sandhills, just a short 20-minute drive to Valentine, Nebraska.
Cattle grazing through proper grass management provide wildlife a perfect habitat. The Evergreen Creek flows East through the land providing water to various ponds creating a natural environment for waterfowl. In the early mornings, you can count on hearing the rooster pheasants chatter and take off in flight as ranch chores begin, while turkeys leave their roosts and begin their day. When moving cattle through their pasture rotations you are sure to have a flock of prairie chickens and sharptail grouse take flight under your horse’s belly. During the migration season, the ranch is a stopping point for geese, cranes, swans, and other migratory birds. A professional birder with the US Fish &amp; Wildlife once said he saw more birds here than any other property he has ever been on.
Camping is permitted on the property.

The property is located in High Plains Zone 2 for Duck and Coot.
The daily bag limit is 6 ducks (Tier I) and 3 ducks (Tier II).

While we have a couple decent bucks, our population is mostly does and you most likely won't find a trophy buck.
For deer hunts, we ask that hunting parties have a minimum of two sportsmen and a maximum of three sportsmen.

You can find just about anything you need here— there are two gun stores, a bait shop, a grocery store, etc. Although we don't have a minimum for days booked in a trip, we highly recommend booking multiple days to take full advantage of what our ranch can offer! Our family has had great success hunting the ranch and we look forward to sharing this with other anglers!

One of the largest concentrations of elk winter on this property. Late fall after the crops are taken out, the elk migrate to the hay meadows and canyons of NV Land &amp; Cattle. Seen (not hunted) on the northern end of the property this year was a 7x7 that scored at least 385.&nbsp;
The NV Land &amp; Cattle Niobrara River Ranch offers all the types of terrain you can find in Nebraska in an uber-private area/setting. Meandering spring-fed creeks run through the canyons, the Niobrara River borders over a 1/4 mile of the property, hay meadows that are planted w/ alfalfa every other year and managed food plots strategically placed in coves, and deep drop-off canyons border the meadows on 3 sides. Big resident whitetail and Elk make their way up from the canyons to the meadows.&nbsp;
The lodge is superbly situated on a plateau overlooking the Niobrara River. The last couple of years, turkey populations in Nebraska are declining, this is not the case at this ranch. 100% Merriam Turkey, have located 4 different flocks w/ different roosting areas. Hunters have the opportunity to hunt turkey on the Niobrara River bottom, in pine-covered canyons, or up in the hay meadows.&nbsp;

DIY Bird Watching Experience

A place so spectacular and fulfilling we almost think of it as its own State rather than Nebraska, NV Land &amp; Cattle's incredible scenery leaves guests breathless time and time again. In winter you can view a significant amount of waterfowl species, Bald and Golden Eagles are prevalent in this area. Summer time has many species of birds from Cardinals, rose breasted grosbeaks, chickadees, nuthatches, eagles, hawks, falcons, cranes, swans, geese and ducks, hummingbirds, bluebirds, red breasted woodpeckers, redheaded woodpeckers, northern flickers, the list is limitless.&nbsp;
Guests can sit in blinds a view many hoofed animals including whitetail and mule deer and elk. Bobcats and mountain lions are often seen as well&nbsp;

Guided Bison Hunt

Hunt multiple species of wild turkey on our 6,500 acre ranch. When you're not out calling in a gobbler, relax while fishing for bass, bluegill, and pike on our private lake. We do not offer any lodging, but you are welcome bring an RV, trailer, motorhome, or tent camp. There are lodging options nearby in Valentine as well.
Hybrids and Merriam's are common in the area. There is no guarantee what breed you will see while out there as populations fluctuate year to year.
