Lovejoy Ranch is a sixth-generation working cattle ranch owned and operated by Bob and Jody Dexter. The 6500-acre property is nestled in the north-central region of the unique grass-covered dunes of the Sandhills, just a short 20-minute drive to Valentine, Nebraska.
Cattle grazing through proper grass management provide wildlife a perfect habitat. The Evergreen Creek flows East through the land providing water to various ponds creating a natural environment for waterfowl. In the early mornings, you can count on hearing the rooster pheasants chatter and take off in flight as ranch chores begin, while turkeys leave their roosts and begin their day. When moving cattle through their pasture rotations you are sure to have a flock of prairie chickens and sharptail grouse take flight under your horse’s belly. El Lake, the beginning of the Evergreen creek, is a small lake stocked with an abundance of bass, northern pike, and bluegill.
The Ranch has RV and tent camping available, but hotel lodging is available in a short drive. Valentine is a small town at the junction of two major US Highways, 20 and 83. You can find just about anything you need here— there are two gun stores, a bait shop, a grocery store, etc.

The Sunken Woodland features a large VERY PRIVATE clearing on the top rim of Maple Creek Canyon. Guests will have exclusive use of a fire pit grill, a picnic table, several scenic social areas, and optional chairs for small to large gatherings, and a ramp going down into a dense woodland at the canyon bottom.

Guests will also are free to explore the scenic 1.5 mile long Behind The Barns Trail that follows the canyon rim.

Our property consists of two parcels about 30 miles apart. For our first parcel, we have about 480 acres just north of Hemingford. This ground is mostly cropland, with a small portion of pasture surrounded by shelterbelts. About 30 miles northwest, we have our second parcel, which consists of about 475 acres. This ground is just north of the Niobrara River. The terrain is more textured with timbered sections, draws, and hills.
Both of our parcels have great habitat for upland and grassland bird species!

The Lotton Ranch

Jackie Augustine, Audubon of Kansas' Executive Director, has been watching birds for nearly 25 years. She conducts surveys for prairie grouse, rails, and songbirds on the property. In winter you can view a significant amount of waterfowl species, Bald and Golden Eagles are prevalent in this area. Summer time has many species of birds from Cardinals, rose breasted grosbeaks, chickadees, nuthatches, eagles, hawks, falcons, cranes, swans, geese and ducks, hummingbirds, bluebirds, red breasted woodpeckers, redheaded woodpeckers, northern flickers, the list is limitless.&nbsp;
Guests can sit in blinds a view many hoofed animals including whitetail and mule deer and elk. Bobcats and mountain lions are often seen as well&nbsp;

Lodging:
Lodging in either our 1-bedroom (2 beds) farm bunkhouse or "off-grid" cabin (with four beds) is required for all bookings. Lodging is $150 per person per night, which is incorporated into the total per-person price of the hunt. One night of lodging is included for every day booked.
